Is there any easier way to pluck brows?

Try tweezing your eyebrows right after a shower. The heat from the shower helps to loosen hair follicles, making plucking easier and less painful. You can also try Baby Anbesol to numb the area. Baby bc it won't burn your skin like the others. Just make sure not to get it in your eyes, that will burn like ...

Thanks for the question!

Rock out with your CROCS out!

It's no secret that I love Crocs! I have them in all colors & styles. Being a makeup artist, I'm on my feet all day. Plus having back issues, my body was hurting by the end of the day. Crocs got me through until I had back surgery last year.

Now with a titanium disk & even longer work days, I still depend on my Crocs to get my through those long days. Which brings me to the point of this entry: new styles!

I'm going to buy all 3 styles pictured. I'm sure my partner in beauty, @onysalon, will do the same! She's down w/ the C too!  Visit www.crocs.com for all the deets!  Images below from Crocs ad in People's Style Watch April 2010 issue:

The duct tape of beauty products - Aquaphor

Aquaphor has been dubbed the duct tape of beauty products. Works like a dream and is long lasting. A little goes a long way & it's noncomedogenic (it won't clog your pores)!  It does have a greasy feel just like Vaseline but it's amazing.  I'm pretty in love with all the Eucerin products, and this one is on top of my list.  Many famous makeup artists use Aquaphor in their kits to create a perfectly smooth lip.

If you have trouble with your lip gloss or lip stick not looking smooth due to lip lines or dry skin, this will take care of it.  Dry, cracked lips or skin are no match for the product.  If nothing else has worked, you must try Aquaphor.  You can pick this up and any drug store for around $6.

What is your beauty routine?

1. Ultra Bland cleanser from Lush
2. St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub
3. Vitamin E stick all over

The Dangers of Loose Mineral Powders from Dr. Oz

Now I know most of you, myself included, have used or are using some sort of loose mineral powder makeup.  The most popular would be Bare Minerals.  I have made the switch personally and professionally to Naked Minerals, which is pressed mineral powder.  Better coverage, better for you, and no mess!  If you would like more information on Naked Minerals, email us: thesavvydolls@gmail.com

Check out what Dr. Oz had to say:

The Price of Beauty

"We’re paying more and more attention to the food and drink we put inside our bodies, but everyday we slather products on our bodies that are unregulated, made from hazardous substances, and potentially harmful to our health. In the pursuit of beauty (or, let’s face it, just covering up the circles under our eyes), we cake on makeup, rub on moisturizers, and spray on perfume – and not one of those products is subject to FDA approval. What’s worse, labels that seem to indicate healthy choices – natural, organic, hypoallergenic – don’t actually mean anything, because there are no regulations for using those terms. Here’s what you need to know about the 3 most dangerous beauty products.

The Problem with Powder is...

Mineral makeup is a big trend. Made from minerals such as mica, which are used for industrial purposes as well, these tiny particles are a thousand times smaller than predecessors from even 10 years ago. Their small size makes for a smoother, more flawless look, but it has one serious unintended consequence. The particles are so tiny they fall quickly through the air and can be inhaled easily into your lungs. When construction workers use mica in products such as spackle, they wear masks to protect their lungs from scarring over time. Though there are no studies showing damage from makeup use to date, experts say the long-term use and inhalation of minerals in makeup can lead to inflammation, irritation, and lung disease in women and girls."

I need to know the best eye makeup to buy.

For makeup newbies try: L'Oreal HIP & Hard Candy (both are at wal-mart $7-$10)

Some of the Pro lines I use include: MAC, Smashbox, Ben Nye, & MUFE.

Just make sure to use an eye shadow primer to prevent creasing & to make the color stay on longer.

What is the best way to apply mineral make-up? Kabuki brush?

I love to use a dual fiber brush. (it has white hairs that stick out) It gives great coverage but with a smooth finish. Then using a concealer brush, I go under the eye & where I need more. I love Eco Tools brush set by Alicia Sliverstone. Yes, from Clueless :)

I keep reading about stippling foundation. What does that even mean?

What a great question!

In the art world, stippling is a method of drawing or painting with a series of small dots to create texture and depth.

In the beauty world, stippling is a method of blending out creamy makeup products, like concealers, foundations, and lipsticks, to create a seamless, soft finish. To stipple, just apply the product a makeup sponge and use short strokes to lightly dab onto your face until blended.

What can I use to help the look of chapped lips? They feel soft but have tons of lines...

Use a moisturizing lipstick primer. Primers fill in fine lines, protect lips, smooth things out, and keep your color on longer. I'm a fan of Urban Decay's Lip Primer Potion ($20) & I also love their Eyeshadow Primer Potion to keep eyeshadow in place too!

Any good mascaras out there that don't cost over $20? I'm not feeling up to a mall run...

My favorite drug store mascara is L'Oreal Double Extend ($10) in the gold & white tube. The white side is a primer which can double as an eyelash conditioner. Conditioning your lashes will help them grow just like conditioning the hair on your head. Let me know how you like it!

Jennifer's Stunning E-Session

I had the absolute pleasure of working with this real life doll.  Despite our early AM appointment, Jennifer was so sweet & had the biggest smile.  She is a 4th grade teacher in Charlotte, NC and I'm sure her students love her too!  For her makeup, Jennifer didn't want to be overdone.  She wanted to just look like herself, just flawless.  Here are some of the elegant photos from her E-Session with the talented Allison Reisz!
